M.Sc in Health Psychology; Certificates in CBT and Mindfulness
Elaine Garrigan has a MSc in Health Psychology through the University
of Ulster and a BA (Hons) in Psychology. She has also professional
certificates and training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and
Mindfulness. She is accredited and a member of the PSI and the PSI
division of Health Psychology.
Elaine uses a combined therapeutic approach to health behaviour
change in the area of weight management, anxiety, stress management
and work-related burn out.
She works with clients to develop a healthy relationship with food and
body image. She also works with clients in developing healthy coping
tools to manage anxiety and stress and to support clients in changing
lifestyle behaviours. High levels of anxiety and stress are associated
with a range of illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and Type 2
diabetes. Lifestyle change such as losing weight and managing stress
can be extremely effective in lowering cholesterol, blood pressure and
controlling blood/ glucose levels.
Over the last 15 years Elaine has worked with clients in areas of
disordered eating and binge eating, by providing a non- judgemental
space to support and identify underlining causes of unhealthy food
relationships. By combining therapeutic techniques such as CBT and
Mindfulness we work at reducing anxiety and behaviour change in
coping.
Elaine also works with clients who are prescribed weight loss
medication particularly GLP -1’s (such as Ozempic, Mounjaro and
Trulicity) and combined with therapeutic work, resulting in very successful change in longer term weight management, improved self-esteem and healthy eating.
